Handbook of Hajj: Umra and Hajj - Tawaf:
The DEVOTIONAL act of circumambulating (i.e. walking around) the Kabah while reciting prayers and
supplications is called Tawaf.
Details Of Tawaf - The essentials of Tawaf are as follows:
1) Like any other act of WORSHIP, Tawaf also starts with the intention (niyyah) to perform this act for the sake
of Allah only.
2) Each circuit, or shawt, starts from Hajar ul Aswad with the pilgrim reciting "Bismillah, Allah-o-Akbar" and
performing the Istilam of the SACRED stone.

Islamic Wisdom: The Ritual of Tawaf
The Tawaf is not just a practice of worship but also an act of devotion that brings the pilgrim closer to Allah.
It’s important to note here that encircling the Holy Ka’abah doesn’t mean Muslims worship the Ka’abah.
Instead, they worship the being that owns the Ka’abah, that is, Allah.

Why is Tawaf Important?
While on umrah and hajj Muslims perform tawaf around kaaba. The Tawaf is not just a practice of WORSHIP
but also an act of devotion that brings the pilgrim closer to Allah.
Why Do Muslims Do Tawaf 7 Times ? Tawaf is an act of WORSHIP and regardless of the type of WORSHIP we perform,
we do not ask why there are to be performed in a certain fashion. We simply perform them because God commanded us
and in a way prescribed and taught by the Holy Prophet.

As for the idolatrous mushrik, he is the one who circumambulates rocks or shrines, venerating them, hoping that
they will relieve his distress and answer his prayers, weeping out of fear of them, beseeching them, and seeking
to draw closer to them by means of different acts of worship such as prostration, sacrifices, circumambulation and
supplication. In doing so he is NOT obeying the command of Allaah or the laws of the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him), rather he is obeying his own whims and desires and the shaytaan.
